Topic Study: Pride

We have started our new curriculum and may I say though we are struggling through understanding it. It is FANTASTIC. I truly do love it.  This weeks Topic Study is on Pride. Oh yes the ultimate sin, the thing that creeps up on each us.

Pride:

Pride is a way one elevates themselves above others, thinking that they are better than someone else. Pride is also a way one sin’s against another by thinking they do not  have to submit to one’s authority.

Pride can destroy and take over one’s heart. The heart becomes hardened and they think they do things in their own understanding. Example Nebuchadnezzar, He believed his kingdom was built by his own hands and not by the Hands of the Lord. The Lord can humble anyone who walks in pride. (Daniel 1-4)

Pride runs ramped in all of our hearts. Pride prevents me from being honorable and submissive to my husband. Pride keeps me from turning away wrath. As long as I allow pride to dominate in my life I can not live out the word of God nor am I being a good example of Christ’s love.

Read: Effects of Pride:

            Proverbs 8:13

            Proverbs 11:2

           Proverbs 16:18

          Proverbs 29:23

May the Lord’s words penetrate your heart so that you will be changed!

I am not sure how many of your children use the internet whether it be for playing online games, facebook, or email but there is two must have programs that will protect your children from "accidently" going to a website they should not see, and the other records their activities for you so you can see where they have been, and if they were chatting with someone.

Both are these are FREE services and work great! I have used Blue Coat K-9 for years. The second one I just learned about and it is a great service

We are home…

the trip went so fast. The week before we left seemed to drag because of the anticipation we all had in going to Missouri. We arrived there safe with a beautiful sunset. It was such a smooth drive, and so easy. Honor was truly shocked and surprised to see us.   IMG_1028

The weekend was NO FUN- there were way to many people there, kids being loud, TV’s going, my brother being unkind, but I was happy to see my sister. It is hard to be so far away and not be able to participate in her life.

Once the weekend ended peace was restored, and normalcy returned to my sister’s home.  We hung out, ran around together, and just enjoyed each other’s company.

Friday came in a flash- the drive home WAS LONG!IMG_1163 ugh- I decided to try a different way home- and my Navigator- Paul fell a sleep on me, so I was driving blind.  IMG_1211 After 14 hours of driving we made it home and was I happy to see my beloved. It was hard to be away from him. The peace he brings the family, and guidance he brings to each of us is not matched nor found anywhere else!

Now we are trying to get back to real life! Starting our curriculum and bring a new focus to our lives!

BFS #122 - Say It With Flowers (FTD)

Memory Verse - II Corinthians 4:18 - While we look not at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen; for the things which are seen are temporal; but the things which are not seen are eternal.
Introduction - Beauty is in the eye of the beholder; isn't that what we've always been told.  I find beauty in many things and in most people.  There's beauty in a flower, according to FTD as well, there's beauty in trees,  animals, people, and I'd have to say, as I'm sure that most people agree that there's beauty in watching a child grow.
Assignment - Look around your space, look into your heart and share the beauty you see or feel with the rest of us.

Wanders…

Today as I read my devotion it was based from Exodus- it talked about the Israelites exit from Egypt and of course all the wonderful miracles the Lord provided for that exit. As I read,  I saw myself in the words. For the last 6 years we have moved every 18 months. We have wandered around, seeking what?

What is it that we are looking for?

Why does it seems sometimes that we are so alone in this journey?

I have seen God’s miracles in my life. I know He is with me but yet I am still wandering and at times like the Israelites I lose faith out of fear, or discouragement.

We are still wandering. My prayers is that He will not leave me wandering for 40 years, that the end is near for our wandering days. I pray He will lead us into the land flowing with milk and honey, so that we can glorify HIS name!

Thanks for allowing me to share my thoughts with you today…

What does being a mother mean to you?

I was reading a blog that I love My charming Kids by McMama- and she was talking about mothering.  Her story got me thinking about what mothering means to me?  Mine is not as profound and hers and ,of course, I have no books to give away, but here is what being a mother means to me:

It has been 18 years since my beloved and I decided(or actually God decided) to start our family. I intended my life for other things, travel, business success, and an esteemed education. The Lord had other plans for me!
When I first found out I was pregnant it put a wave of shock and fear through me. Shock because the last thing I planned on was a baby.;-) Fear because was I even good enough to be a mother. How could I take care of baby when I was making so many mistakes in my life?
The moment I saw his precious face, and held his little hand I was hooked. This little creature was mine I helped create it, WOW, that amazed me. His every move, yawn, cry, I watched with amazement and ,of course, I stood in awe of How God created us to reproduce and bring life forth! Now 6 children later- I feel no different. The awe is still the same of how God creates life in me. Feeling that little one grow inside me, and watching them grow into individuals. Seeing their own personalities kick in realizing that is what God intended me for! Not to travel, not to be a successful educated business woman to be an engineer of my home and a mother, nurturer, hug-giver to the gifts He has given me to love and to love me like NO one has ever loved me, unconditionally. Life is never so fulfilling until you look into the eyes of that little one and he or she says "Mama-I lub you!" Then you realize- what mothering is all about!

What does being a mother mean to you?

Get Back Up…

Everyone knows I am a big blubber head! But this one- is over the top. What a blessing- and to the Glory of God that this man messages gives! Please watch- it will truly touch you- and remind you that through the tough situations which make you fall or stubble to GET BACK UP!

Bible Purse…

Often times I buy a bible cover for my bible- but when you have more than one that can bet a bit pricey- so I decided to see if there was a pattern online. There was not pattern but there was instructions, so by following those instructions- I made my first bible purse- and it actually has straps long enough that you can carry your bible like a purse.. It is cool.

IMG_0854  Notice how my model- Reia- can strap that bible right on her shoulder. IMG_0855     Aww a perfect fit!

IMG_0857

See how snug the bible is in the case?!!

GREAT- thanks Reia!

Blogger Friend School Assignment #119

Assignment:  This week I thought we could share what great ways we have found to help with all we have to do.

Through the years when my little ones were young. I spent alot of time training them to be helpful, thoughtful and know that a family functions as a unit. Though in those days I did everything on my own as time past and each one of them grew, they grew to be help, caring, considerate blessings in my life.

Besides the obvious getting face down in front of God, what have you found that works?

Consistency and prayer of course! I developed a routine of things that needed to be done daily, and weekly.

Have you done a great bible study that deals with this area?

No

Do you have a certain “thing” that  really helps you like a planner or gadget?

Everything that needs to be remembered gets put on my calendar that is part of my email program. I have it set with alarms for reminders

Do you have a certain bible verse that just speaks to you and you have it posted so you see it all the time?

Proverbs 31:13

She seeketh wool , and flax , and worketh  willingly  with her hands

What do you do that if someone else found out about it, they could benefit from it?

I am not sure if do anything out of the ordinary or profound. I try to keep my children involved in the care of our home. I use a menu for meals so that I can shop more efficiently. I have just started to make my own laundry soap because it last longer and is more economical. We make our own bread instead of buy it because it is healthier for you  and obviously less expensive. Those are just a few things I do.

Homemade Supplies

I just recently made homemade laundry soap- it was so easy to make and only took a fraction of time- cost $10.00 and it will last a very long time. (650  loads of laundry!) The greatest thing about it is you can make it  in any  scent so your clothes smell exactly like you want them too.

Homemade Laundry Soap

I also just recently got a “recipe” for dishwashing soap- which is made from the same ingredients that you make your laundry soap so I had the items on hand.

Dishwashing Soap:

Mix and use per dishwasher load:
1 Tablespoon Borax
1 Tablespoon Baking soda

OR

Mix equal parts Borax and Baking Soda, and add 2 Tablespoons per load. Increase proportion of soda for hard water. Use vinegar in the rinse cycle.

Works GREAT!!

Let me know if you try it out!

Will Over God’s Word

Many times in my marriage I have had the biggest battle going on inside of me over requests or tasks asked of me by my beloved husband.

Here is an example:  My dear beloved decided that it was best for us to go and spend Sunday afternoon  at his brother’s house. They were going to be watching the Super Bowl, like many American households, having friends and family over. My beloved decided thought this to be a good time for fellowship. Personally I did not want to go.  Let me give you a few reasons why: I had to prepare for my schooling week, I NEVER watch football,  and watching a football game is not “fellowship”, but regardless what I wanted he made the decision. I  felt forced to go-honestly. I, of course, suggested that he and the children can go and I can stay to accomplish my tasks. He negated that idea as soon as it escaped from my lips. NO we will go as a family, he said. With resentment building, I prepared myself for the evening.

As I prepared myself, I had this inner dialogue:

UGH-why do I have to go?

Am I not my own person?

Since when do I have to listen to him?

Am I a child or an adult?

Does submission mean I lose my own will for my life or my desires?

In the quest to seek the answer to these questions  Will over God’s Word was born.

Will over God’s Word

By Angie Sellers

What is your Will?

Your will is :

the faculty of your mind by which you determine either to do or forbear an action, Choice; determination, or Disposition; inclination; desire.

Keeping in mind that our will is what we determine to happen, and how we choose things to go according to our desires. In other words when we set our  minds on something there is NOTHING anyone can do to stop us. Can I get an AMEN?

As much as  our will can be a positive thing in our lives, motivating us forward. It also can be a negative thing, motivating us to sin. Right?

Before getting into the scripture lets define a few important words that we need to clearly understand in the text.

What is submission or what does it mean to be subject to someone?

 Submission:

Greek Word:hypotassō

1.The act of submitting; the act of yielding to power or authority

2.Acknowledgment of inferiority or dependence; humble or suppliant behavior

3.Obedience; compliance with the commands

4.Resignation; a yielding of one’s will to the will or appointment of a superior without murmuring

To Be Subject:

Greek word: hypotassō

1) to arrange under, to subordinate

2) to subject, put in subjection

3) to subject one's self, obey

4) to submit to one's control

5) to yield to one's admonition or advice

6) to obey, be subject

Now we know the meaning of the words, submit or subject. Before you start hyperventilating or allowing your temperature to rise lets continue and read Ephesians 5:22-23 carefully. Allow the Words of the Lord to sink in and ask the Holy Spirit to work on your heart to penetrate to the core of understanding.

Ephesians 5:22-23

22Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord.

23For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the savior of the body.

Ephesians 5:22(Greek):

Αἱ γυναῖκες τοῖς ἰδίοις ἀνδράσιν ὑποτάσσεσθε, ὡς τῷ κυρίῳ

Ephesians 5:22(NASV)

22Wives, be subject to your own husbands, as to the Lord.

23For the husband is the head of the wife, as Christ also is the head of the church, He Himself being the Savior of the body.

How many times have your read these verses?

How many times have your heard these verses preached?

For us(woman) these words are hard to understand and more so than that, they hard to swallow. You mean I actually have to listen to “him”, who ever your him is. Mine is a beloved “him”, but still a “him” none the less.

You are saying I have to listen to him without murmuring?

YES-

At what level or how much?

AS UNTO THE LORD or AS TO THE LORD.  The level of our subjection is the same level that we are to subject or submit to the Lord. We are to submit to our husbands as if we are submitting directly to the Lord.

Now I have a question: knowing the meaning of the word submission and what the Word of God says, would you fight with, murmur or rebuke the Lord as we do or have done to our husbands?

I will answer: Yes, Yes, and Yes-(I know I am stubborn!)

In answering Yes- is it right or Righteous?

No-it is not!

Lady- this is the hardest thing to swallow I know. Your will, your ways, must be subject to your head (your husband). You can not worry about whether he deserves it. (that is not in the scriptures) You can not worry about whether he does things right. (not there either) You must worry about your own heart, heeding the Word, and what your actions say unto the Lord.

What does the Lord see in you when He watches you?

Does He see one willing to walk in His ways and Truth? Or does He see one walking in her own ways and understanding?

Remember that the Lord’s thoughts and ways are NOT our own!

Look up: Isaiah 55:8-9

What is the first thought that came to your mind when you read those verses?

As wives and believers if we are to follow the Lord as Christ did, then we must submit as Christ did.

Look up :  John 5:30

In this verse Jesus’ words state he can do nothing  by his own power- The Lord, the Son of God, stated he could do nothing because He did not seek His own will, but the will of the Father who sent Him. Wow- if the Son of God did not seek his own will, why do we?

Look up: 1 Peter 2:21

Christ was the living example for us to follow. He submitted even unto death! Submitting ourselves to our husbands does not bring us to the point of death, does it?

Inside as your will battles with the very words of the Lord it may feel like death, but that is not true death really.

It is an example of the process of dying to ourselves?

That battle is our pride interfering with what is right and holy.

What is the process to deal with this?

How do we do what scripture asks of us as wives?

These are the series of questions that you should ask yourself when you find yourself  in this “War of the Will”:

Why is this task or request so hard for me?

Is what my husband asking of me unreasonable?

What outcome does he want to see from this task or request?

As you search your heart for the answer to these questions- the battle will subside your will and you will seek the will of your husband instead of your own will.

We are  to be the living  examples of Christ to those around us,whether it be children, co-workers, relatives, or even outsiders looking in.

Look up: 1 Timothy 4:12

People are watching you and how your interact with your husband. In the act of submission towards your husband you become an example of how others are to submit or obey the authority in their lives.

How do we say we love our husbands and not submit?

Look up:  Titus 2:4-5

According  to this verse if we do not submit  we are blaspheming the Word of God.This hurt me deeply to think that as I did not submit I was blaspheming the Word of God.

What does Blaspheme mean?

Blaspheme:

To speak of, or address, with impious irreverence; to revile impiously (anything sacred)

Dear Lady if your heart and will is to serve the Lord, are we not to serve Him in ALL THINGS?

Look up:  Duet. 31: 6-8

Even when it seems too difficult The Lord promises to never leave you.

Look up: 1 Corth. 10:13

He will never give you anything you can not handle.

Look up: Psalm 5:11

Now that we have faced what submission is, and why we should submit. Lets look at this at a different angle. Being married for 16 years, I have had to ask myself, does my husband really mean me harm?

How many of you can honestly say that your husband’s purpose is to harm you or the family?

Look up: Ephesians 5:25-28

Most husband’s love their wives so deeply. They love her as much as they do their own bodies, if not more. Knowing your husband loves your so deeply, then why is submitting so hard?

Did you know that this is how you show your righteous Godly love to your husband?

Dear Lady submission is not a step towards being a mouse or a doormat. It is a step towards being a righteous woman.  Take one step at a time, one situation as they come from your husband remembering that he loves you.

Look up: Proverb 31:28

Submit your ways, your will and pride each day unto your husband, and to the Lord, it will bring you blessings from your husband and praise.

Let this be your prayer, dear Lady. Also find an older sister that emulates these traits in her life and when you struggle ask her to pray for you. Most of all pray for strength from the Holy Spirit and guidance from the Word of God!

Thank you for allowing me to walk you through the Word. May the Lord use it to His Glory!

Angie
